Narrowing down the best gun for home defense can feel overwhelming. Between the advice at the gun store, the people online, and your friend’s brother’s buddy who used to be a cop, it can feel like too much information. To avoid adding to that noise of home defense weapons, we’ll keep this short and simple. Covering the pros and cons of the major platforms while giving some recommendations for specific models to take a look at. EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON YOUR SITUATION There is no one-size-fits-all answer to defending your home. Differences in budget, local laws, personal ability, personal preferences, and…
It’s rare that guns based upon classic military firearms don’t trigger (pun intended) some sort of reaction among gun enthusiasts. One of these is the U.S. Military’s M14, brought to the eager hands of civilian shooters by Springfield Armory 50 years ago as the legendary M1A, with many variants offered since. In my opinion, the most striking is the M1A Tanker, inspired by the prototype T26 Tanker Garand. The Springfield Armory M1A Tanker is a perfect, modern brush gun. It offers accurate, powerful shots with fast follow-up shots. This shorter version of the original rifle, with its iron sights and…

Glock has been the gold standard duty pistol for generations. From world champions to tier 1 operators, Glock is the trusted name that everyone defaults to. Now we’re hands-on with the brand-new sixth generation, and, spoiler alert: for the second time in a row Glock can’t figure out how to deliver an optics system worthy of their name. There is a lot to like about the sixth generation of Glock — the grip texture, the palm swells, the more comfortable ergonomics. Setting aside the optics for now, this is my favorite generation of Glock pistol and the only generation that…
In 1960, the U.S. Army published a proposal for a new light observation helicopter to replace its Bell H-13 helicopter fleet, which was the Army’s primary helicopter during the Korean War. The Hughes helicopter company responded with its Model 369 to compete against entries from Bell and Fairchild-Hiller. The Hughes entry made its first flight in 1963. The design featured an egg-shaped fuselage that had excellent visibility for the crew, and the four-bladed articulated rotor gave it great agility. Smith & Wesson has just upgraded its classic defensive snubby with the Bodyguard 38 2.0.Snub-nose Smith & Wesson revolvers have been a staple of self-defense for a very long time, and one of the go-to models is the Bodyguard 38. While the last incarnation of this revolver has been discontinued, Smith just gave it a facelift and replaced it with the new Bodyguard 38 2.0.Firstly, let’s talk about what’s stayed the same. It’s still a 5-shot, double-action only .38 Special +P snub-nose revolver. It still has a 1.875-inch stainless steel barrel, and it still features an aluminum alloy upper frame…
GForce Arms of Reno, Nevada, has certainly made a big splash by importing different firearms made in Turkey, but with tariff instabilities the importer from the Biggest Little City in the World is switching their sights to domestically produced firearms. This one is the GForce Jawbone. GForce famously uses Biblical nomenclature (see our article on the Rapture and the Exodus) but “Jawbone” sounds more like a Bluetooth earpiece offering. Yet if you turn to Judges 15:15, you’ll find Sampson: “And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand and took it, and slew a thousand…
The 1911 has now been with us for a century and a decade. Throughout that lifespan, there’s been no point at which it was not beloved by huge numbers of soldiers, law enforcement agents, and civilian shooters. Astonishingly, perhaps implausibly, the 1911 remains a darling of serious pistoleros: attend any defensive pistol course, and one will find it in the holsters of students and instructors alike. Was the grip safety on the 1911 inspired, or an anachronistic mistake? Image: Morgan Gregory The reason is not hard to ascertain. Most of the 1911’s design elements persist into the modern era due to indisputable…
