KRAKOW, POLAND — Five people were killed and more than a dozen were injured Saturday after shots were fired in Krakow’s Main Square, a busy tourist area in the city center. Police said the suspect was shot by officers and taken to a hospital.
Reuters reported that police first received calls around 3 p.m. local time and said a man in a car was firing randomly into the square. Local reporting said the suspect was wearing military-style clothing, and the official city bulletin said police were also working near Dietla street as emergency crews secured the area.
Interia quoted a witness who described people running for cover as a black car passed through the square. The city bulletin urged people to stay away from the scene and follow emergency instructions if they were nearby.
This is a developing story.
Safety Tip: If you are near an active shooting scene, move to cover, follow police instructions, and call emergency services only if you can do so safely.
